Happy New Year 2010

Each New Year brings reflexions on the past and new hopes and goals for the future. That being said, this is the first day of my new project, My Blog. I have actually been working towards this for some time now. We never all of a sudden wake up one day and say I am going to start a Blog or write a cookbook or go on a diet or work out at the club more. etc etc etc. Our actions are always intertwined with past success and "opportunities". Our desire to learn and grow. Where do I begin? Well, my brother Jon has been encouraging me to write a cookbook for 10 years. So, it is partly from his encouragements. My husband David, has been researching and writing about Longevity Medicine. Which has caused many interesting discussions. Really, I need to go further back then that. My mother's interest in International Cuisine as I was growing up brings many memories of new tastes and experimentation, excitment in the kitchen. Then there was a wonderful trip to Europe after college that exposed me to so many more recipes and lifestyle experiences. This led me to establishing The Rosebud Grocery and with my husband Rossini's Trattoria and Vinnie's Restuarante and following a career in the "Gourmet" food business. Now after "retiring" from self employment. I have been working for Byerly's Grocery Store. Managing the Culinary & Gift Basket Shop and teaching at the Cooking School. My children are all growing up and needing less of my time. I have this wonderful opportunity to explore.
So why Mediterranean 101?

Last fall I attended a meeting that was presented by Dr Julie Jones, her topic, Dashing for The Mediterranean Diet: A Strategy for Preventing Obesity and Maintaining Health with Diets that Aren't Diets" Her ever-resounding question over and over was, "Why do we not follow this diet?" People could get off medications. Have a more vibrant enjoyable life. It is not new news. The food is delicious and easy to prepare. It reduces the risk of cardiac disease, cancer, high blood pressure, and eliminates the need for medication. I went away asking myself that same question. Through my husband, I have been submerged into the"Italian" food traditions. We cook "it" every week. We served it in our Restuarants and Delis. Yet, do we really follow the Mediterranean Diet? Why not? That is how I came to the my resolution to set it up, make it easy, teach it and live it. The Mediterranean Diet 101. So here we go!
